Albemarle County Schools Adult Education’s ESOL Partners in
Leadership Sponsors a Special Evening of International Dance
"From Many Nations ... To One Community,” a special evening of
international dance featuring local Irish, Chinese, African, Latin
and American dance groups demonstrating the universality of dance as
an expression of culture and community. This showcase is brought to
you by Albemarle County Schools Adult Education’s ESOL Partners in
Leadership, a group of adult English language and civics students.
The group’s goal is to develop and demonstrate their leadership
potential while, at the same time, contribute to the community at
large. They have partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater
Charlottesville to raise the funds for and construct a simple,
decent, affordable home for a low-income working family to realize
the dream of homeownership. This program is made possible through the
generosity of a Community Performance Access Grant from The Paramount
Theater.

Kid Pan Alley
WHAT IS KID PAN ALLEY?
Imagine what it be like to be child writing a song in their classroom
with a professional songwriter. And suppose that your song was
recorded by a world-class recording artist like Delbert McClinton,
Amy Grant, Kix Brooks, Suzie Bogguss, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Lari
White, or Raul Malo along with our partners, the Nashville Chamber
Orchestra. You’d be changed forever—seeing yourself as a creator
and not just a consumer. You’d have learned about teamwork, the
value of everyone’s ideas, embracing diversity and collaboration
through the group songwriting process. You might start writing songs
to express your feelings rather than striking out in anger. You’d
feel really listened to and proud of what you had done. And just
imagine that this was the most fun you ever had in school.
Well, this is what Kid Pan Alley is doing in schools throughout the
country—inspiring kids use their imaginations—to be creators, not
consumers. We’ve written over 900 songs with over 18,000 children
and we’ve got to say kids make the greatest co-writers. Come on
inside and hear some of their creations. http://www.kidpanalley.org/
