1st Annual Special Needs Conference and Resource Fair for Parents,
Guardians and Community Members
WHAT: The Piedmont Regional Education Program (PREP)/Parent Resource
Center, in collaboration with six local Special Education Advisory
Committees, will sponsor a free conference and resource fair.
WHEN: The conference will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2008.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the last session ends at 1 p.m.
WHERE: PREP/Parent Resource Center
225 Lambs Lane
Charlottesville, VA 22901
WHO: The event is geared toward parents, families and community
members who are involved with a child or young adult with special needs.
This day-long conference will highlight issues such as Virginia
Assessments, Assistive Technology, Parent Advocacy, Family Dynamics,
Sensory Strategies, and Understanding Educational Testing. Two
sessions are devoted to transition issues, which is especially
important to middle and high school parents and students as they
‘transition’ from school to the community.
In addition to the conference, a resource fair will take place
throughout the day. The fair will provide participants an opportunity
to meet with many local agencies and organizations that provide
services and support for individuals with disabilities.
Limited childcare and translation services will be available.
Golden Apple Awards
Sponsored by
Better Living Building Supply & Better Living Furniture
Richard L. Nunley, Chairman, is pleased to announce that Better
Living Building Supply & Better Living Furniture is sponsoring the
8th Annual Golden Apple Awards for outstanding teachers from our
school systems. These awards are presented to faculty members from
the public and private schools in Albemarle County and
Charlottesville City, including CATEC. Eligible private schools are
those that are members of the Virginia Association of Independent
Schools (VAIS).
The Golden Apple Award is a means of selecting and honoring some of
our outstanding teachers. Teachers are most important in nurturing
our children’s inquisitive minds and preparing them for the
challenges of the future.
Nominate a teacher and show your appreciation and support!
Nomination forms are available from the local schools
or online at www.k12albemarle.org
The Golden Apple Award
One candidate is selected to represent their school and receives a
Golden Apple, as well as gift certificates from local businesses. As
a “Golden Apple” teacher, each candidate is then eligible to receive
a Golden Apple Grant ($1000). Grants are awarded to eight (8)
candidates: 3 elementary, 2 middle, and 2 high school candidates of
the public schools in Albemarle County and Charlottesville City and
CATEC, and to 1 candidate from the schools that are members of the
Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS). The grant award
is used to support the candidate’s continued professional development.
