White Hall District "Town Hall" Meetings

This month Supervisor Ann Mallek will hold three community "town
hall" meetings at venues across White Hall District. Attendance is
free and open to all White Hall residents. The meetings will be held:

-Tuesday, March 11, 6:30-9:30 PM, at Henley Middle School (cafeteria)
-Tuesday, March 18, 6:30-9:30 PM, at the White Hall Community Center
-Tuesday, March 23, 6:30-9:30 PM, at Broadus Wood Elementary School
(cafeteria)

The core meeting agenda, from 7-9 PM will focus on Supervisor
Mallek's report to constituents on recent decisions by the Board of
Supervisors, in-depth discussion of tax and budget issues, and open
discussion time for White Hall residents and communities to voice
their questions, opinions and ideas on local issues. Before and
after the core meeting, constituents are invited to talk with
Supervisor Mallek about individual matters of concern.

Mallek invites all White Hall district residents to attend. "It is
my responsibility to be open, accessible, and accountable to the
voters. Many people find it inconvenient or even intimidating to
attend Board meetings. I hope White Hall residents will see this as
a good opportunity to meet with me and with their neighbors, so we
can talk together about how we can make our community stronger and
our local government more responsive to people's concerns."

Light refreshments will be provided. For further information, please
contact amallek at albemarle.org; phone 434-978-1150.

"Strong Public Schools - Strong Communities" Car Magnets

The Albemarle County Schools Parent Council has developed a car
magnet (see below - approx 4" dia) in support of public schools with
the assistance of Mark and Tara Mincer. The Parent Council received
several generous contributions from education supporters (parents,
School Board members, and community supporters) toward the effort so
that they could provide the magnets free of charge. Their goal is to
encourage supporters to place the magnets on their cars, rather than
refrigerators, filing cabinets, etc. in order to get the message out
into the community. If you would like a magnet please contact Teresa
Hashisaki mailto:thashi at comcast.net

Donations are welcome. Checks payable to: ACPS Parent Council, 2385
Cinnamon Ridge Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901

Community Forum on Cyber Safety -- A Who's Watching Charlottesville
Presentation

Monticello High School will host a Community Forum on Cyber Safety
Awareness on March 18, 2008. The program begins at 6:45 p.m. in the
forum at the Monticello High School. Community representatives will
help us understand popular websites like Facebook, MySpace,
Friendster, Flickr, and Blogspot that are often used by our children.
They will give you an opportunity to ask such questions as how much
information should be included on a social networking site or how can
parents monitor for safety? They will also address the risk to
children and teens from online predators and the role of law
enforcement.

Past participants have found this presentation to be informative. If
you have questions about the overall program, contact Dr. Bernard
Hairston, Office of Community Engagement at 293-0288 or Jan Mawyer
at Monticello High School at 244-3100.
