For the International Rescue Committee (IRC), to benefit children
who have recently moved here from all over the world
The IRC helps resettle new immigrants from many different parts
of the world in our area. Since 1998, the IRC has sponsored and
helped settle some 800 refugees into Charlottesville-Albemarle from
Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Burma, Colombia, Croatia, D.R Congo,
Ethiopia, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Kosovo, Liberia, Rwanda, Somalia,
Sri Lanka, Sudan, Togo, the Ukraine and Vietnam.
The goal of resettlement at the IRC is to help refugees become
self-sufficient as quickly as possible, treating them as survivors
rather than victims. The IRC strives to educate new arrivals about
opportunities in their adopted land, remind them of their strength
and capacity for survival, and support their cultural adjustment and
personal growth. Within four months after arrival, nearly 100% of IRC
clients are economically self-sufficient and contributing members of
our community.

Dance Instructor Needed
The 4th and 5th grade musical will include students performing a very basic waltz. Mr. White needs
a parent volunteer to teach a simple two step waltz to the fourth and fifth grade participants for
the musical program. Instruction would take place Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 from 8 to 9 in the morning.
Please let Mr. White know if you are able to teach the students a simple waltz step. Thank you!
