UPDATE 2
Western Feeder Pattern
Fall 2007 Elementary Redistricting
School Board Sets Timeline
The Albemarle County School
Board has finalized a process and
timeline for making attendance
boundary changes for elementary
schools in its Western Feeder Pattern
to reduce overcrowding at Crozet
Elementary School. The changes
would take place for the 2007-08
school year.
The timeline calls for a School Board
decision and family notification
before Spring Break.
The goal of this limited redistricting
process is to reduce student
overcrowding at Crozet without
overcrowding other area elementary
schools. Area middle and high
schools will not be impacted by this
redistricting process.
Based on current enrollment information,
the School Division anticipates a need to move
approximately 24 students from
Crozet to Meriwether Lewis Elementary
School and about 29 Crozet
students to Brownsville Elementary
School. Both Meriwether Lewis and
Brownsville have seats available.
Students who are transferred from
Crozet to other schools in fall 2007
will not be redistricted again during
their elementary school years.
Current Brownsville, Meriwether
Lewis or Murray Elementary School
students would not be transferred to
other schools in fall 2007.
School Board Policy FB (Facilities
Planning) provides guidelines for
developing redistricting options. The
policy can be viewed on-line at
www.k12albemarle.org under the
School Board link.
Division-level staff will create options
to be presented to parents for input
at an information meeting. The
information meeting will be held
February 1 at 7 p.m. at Crozet
Elementary. It will include an explanation
of the process, an overview of
options for attendance boundary
changes, a description of how
schools will work together to ensure
a smooth transition for students who
are being moved, and time for parent
input. Families with children who may
be transferred will receive invitations
to the information meeting by U.S.
Mail.
The public input will be considered by
the superintendent as she develops
the final staff recommendation to the
School Board. The School Board will
host a public hearing on the
recommendation March 15 and will
make a decision March 22.
Timeline:
February 1: Informational
meeting for Western Feeder
Pattern elementary families
on redistricting options at
Crozet Elementary at 7 p.m.
March 8:
Superintendents
recommendation presented
to School Board for review.
March 15: School Board
holds Public Hearing at
6:30 p.m. at Crozet
Elementary.
March 22: School Board
vote during work session at
5:30 p.m. in the Albemarle
County Office Building
McIntire.
Week of March 26:
Families to be transferred
receive notification by U.S.
Mail.
April: Working together,
elementary schools begin
student transition planning
and activities.
Family feedback:
Once the redistricting options are developed, the
School Division will provide opportunities for
parent input through an informational meeting, a
School Board Public Hearing, and on-line.
