 	     - Promotion Ceremony for Fifth Graders, 9 AM	





Curious about Destination Imagination?


Parents--would you like for your child to improve their creative problem solving, time management
skills, public speaking skills, effectiveness in groups, and confidence?

Kids--would you like to have FUN while you work with other kids to solve challenges and express
yourself?

If you answered yes--you should consider Destination Imagination--the world's largest creative
problem solving program for kids.  In Albemarle County, DI is strongly associated with the
Gifted/Talented program--but is not exclusive to those kids.

DI teams are limited to 7 kids in grades 3 and up.  They work on challenges throughout the year
that hone their creative thinking, problem solving, critical analysis, structural analysis, and
improvisational speaking/acting.  The kids have a Team Challenge that they work on throughout the
year.  They present their solution at the Regional, State, and Global Competitions.  Also at these
competitions, they also have an Instant Challenge.  This is a Challenge where they have from 5-8
minutes to solve a situation that requires them to think outside the box and work as a unit.

DI is FUN.  Kids love it.  The culmination of the year is the Global finals in Knoxville, TN.

MLS has fielded 3-5 teams a year for the past several years.  MLS has had a team advance to
Globals during the last two years.   The families associated with DI would like to see a stronger
DI presence at MLS in future years because it is such a wonderful program.
