MLS Night of Excellence Expo & Family Picnic
This Thursday, May 31, at 6:00pm, come and see your child's academic accomplishments showcased in
his/her classroom at the Night of Excellence EXPO. Each classroom will be full of exhibits of the
kids' work -- that they are especially proud of -- from this school year. The EXPO will run from
6:00pm-6:30pm.
Following the Expo, there will be a FAMILY PICNIC on the front field. So pack a basket and grab
this great opportunity to catch up on your fellow MLS families' summer plans.
And don't miss the first annual Book Sale -- in the cafeteria -- where your kids can pick up some
summer reading for just 25 to 50-cents-a-book!
Bluebird Book Swap:
Come visit the Bluebird Book Swap on Thursday, May 31st from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the
cafeteria. Books are 25 and 50 cents. Now is the time to clean out your bookshelves and drop
them off in the school lobby so others can enjoy. Get some new books to jump start your
children's summer reading.
Final PTO Board Meeting:
The last PTO meeting prior to the end of school is scheduled for Monday, June 4th at 6:30 p.m. in
the library. Parents forum begins at 6:30 p.m.
Field Day Volunteers:
Field Day is next week and Mr. Williams and Mr. Wymer could use some volunteers. Monday, June 4th
will be grades 3-5, and Tuesday, June 5th will be grades K-2. Volunteers are needed from 7:45
through noon. Please contact the PE teachers if you can help for all or part of the time.

Iguana:
The fifth grade iguana is ready to graduate from Meriwether Lewis, along with his other fifth
grade friends and move to a permanent home! Eight month old "Kiwi" comes complete with food,
plenty of iguana supplies, and a lovely, hand painted cage which was designed by our terrific MLS
art teacher. Please contact Cheryl Wetmore-Simpson if you would like more information about Kiwi.
She can be reached at 973-6251 or at csimpson at k12albemarle.org.
