Back to School Night:

Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at 7:00 PM

There will be a short general PTO meeting at 7:00 with an introduction to the faculty followed by
two 30-minute visits in the classrooms.
Children are not expected to attend, only parents/guardians.

New Parents to our school are cordially invited to a newcomers social in the cafeteria from 6:30
to 7:00.



ENRICHMENT ZONE IS BACK!  

We plan to offer foreign language enrichment classes in French, Spanish & Chinese again this year.
 Classes meet once a week immediately after school from 2:30-3:30.  In addition, we are planning
other fun enrichment classes to start mid-September or beginning of October!  Watch your backpacks
for application forms! 




Birthday Book Club:

Support the MLS Library! 
Parents provide a $20 donation for a book for the library in honor of a child's birthday.  Our
librarian, Watts Schwab, selects an age-appropriate book to be donated. Your child's name is
inscribed on a bookplate and announced over the school intercom during morning announcements
during the week of Jan. 7-11, 2008. 

Complete the form your child brought home in backpack mail.

Team Managers Needed:

Destination ImagiNation is an international educational organization teaching creative problem
solving strategies, teamwork and life-long skills through team based problem solving – with the
emphasis on fun!

We are looking for Team Managers for the 2007-2008 Destination ImagiNation season.  Working under
the guidance of Team Managers, teams of seven students develop solutions to Team Challenges and
have the opportunity to test their creative solutions against those of other teams.

You’d make a successful Destination ImagiNation Team Manager if you
.
- enjoy working with kids
- can commit an average of 2 hours/week working with a team from October - March
- are willing and able to attend training (no charge to ACPS Team Managers)

Novice Workshop 1 (preregister by Oct. 4)		
at Albemarle Resource Center (ARC) on Forest Drive	
October 11   6:30 – 9:00 pm 				
October 18   6:30 – 9:00 pm				

Novice Workshop 2 (preregister by Nov. 10)
at Monticello HS
November 17	9 am – 3 pm 

Instant Challenge Training/Team Challenge Read Through (novices and experienced)
At Monticello High School
January 26    9:00 am – 1:00 pm (IC Training); 1:00 – 2:00 pm (Team Challenge Read Through)

To volunteer your time and energy to a Destination ImagiNation team in 2007-08, please contact
Debbie Parmelee, the Gifted Resource Teacher, at your school ASAP but no later than September 17.
