BOARD OF SUPERVISORS PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING THE BUDGET
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5th, 6:00pm
Lane Auditorium, County Office Building
Education supporters are urged to attend and share your opinion with the BOS. The School Board
has developed 3 different scenarios of how they can possibly reduce their budget in line with the
BOS available resources. This "budget at a glance" information was provided by Superintendent Pam
Moran. It includes significant reductions which WILL impact our students. Please take a moment
to review these 3 abbreviated budget scenarios, approved by the School Board February 26th
accounting for revenue projections. For details of all proposed reductions involved, contact Mary
Huffard:
# 1 If no additional funding is forthcoming from local government big cuts include reductions
in K-1 TAs, increased middle and high school class sizes to reduce staff, buying fewer textbooks,
eliminate 1 elementary Math Specialist position, eliminate 3 high school guidance positions,
charge building rental fees, eliminate 1 technology support, not replacing older computers in
schools. This scenario includes over $2.3 M in cuts or reductions.
# 2 If approximately $849,000 is approved by the Board of Supervisors as a transfer from the
capital improvements project (CIP) fund. This means that some projects will be delayed in the CIP
plan. However, the reductions listed above do not need to occur. This scenario includes about
$1.4 m in reductions or cuts.
# 3 If approximately $849,000 is approved by the Board of Supervisors as a transfer from the
capital improvements project (CIP) fund and an additional $900,000 is provided for school division
needs by the Board of Supervisors. In this scenario all reductions except for $500,000 are
eliminated.
Parent Council and AEA will provide pizza, drinks, etc. at 5:30pm prior to the public hearing in
Room 246, County Office Building (around the corner from Lane Auditorium).
Please join us for a bite, before our schools BUDGET TAKES A BITE !!
