2008 Albemarle County Public Schools Fine Arts Festival
It's that time of year when flowers bloom and trees start to bud and student artwork adorns the
concourses of Fashion Square Mall. The 2008 Fine Arts Festival will begin on Sunday, March 16th
and run until Saturday, March 29th during mall hours. The Fine Arts Festival exhibits artwork from
all schools and grade levels within the County system and is a way for art teachers to exhibit
work that they feel represents their school and their program the best. This is never an easy task
considering how many fantastic young artists we have at Meriwether Lewis. Exhibition space is
limited so I choose work that I feel best demonstrates the lesson taught, techniques learned and
used correctly, and a pleasing overall aesthetic quality. In the next week, I will be sending home
forms with children whose artwork has been selected for parents to sign. It is County policy to
have permission of the parents to exhibit a child's artwork with their name on it anywhere outside
of the school building. These forms must be signed and returned promptly in order for you child's
work to be exhibited in the show. We have had a good year so far and our kids have been creating
some beautiful pieces of art. I urge everyone to come and support the arts, visit our display and
others, and take in the rich experience of viewing the creation of art through the different age
groups. It's a truly beautiful thing.
See you there,
Andrew Sherogan
Art Teacher
MLS Principal Search:
Following a meeting seeking input from parents into the search for a new Principal at Meriwether
Lewis, County officials would like to hear from more Meriwether parents, if they have additional
factors they would like to be considered in this search. If you have any particular requests
regarding this search, please e-mail them to Mary Spencer, PTO Co-Chair, at spencer.mcb at gmail.com.
They will be kept confidential, and will be forwarded on to the appropriate County officials.
Thank you.
Meriwether Lewis Silent Auction-Fun Fair --- Friday, April 18th:
We need your help to raise money for teaching assistants, school supplies, reading intervention,
and needs that help our children and teachers.
Consider donating entertainment tickets, your talent, sponsor a party, vacation home, gift
certificate or even cash. Download a silent auction donation form and return to the school.

Yearbook Photos:
Cindy Marks would love submissions from any camera-happy parents for use in the school yearbook.
She will need these during the first week in March and you can either email photos to
momwithamac at gmail.com or burn a CD and leave it at the office.
Many thanks for all your help and enthusiasm!
Soccer Donation Service Project:
Time to clean out your closets! Bring all of your old soccer equipment -- shoes, shin guards,
jerseys, shorts, socks, and soccer balls (must be deflated) -- to Meriwether Lewis during the week
of March 31st - April 4th. All of the equipment will be donated to underprivileged children at La
Pedrera School in Guatemala. Did you know that 52% of the population of Guatemala is living below
the poverty line? That's a lot of people and with your help we can make a difference in the lives
of these children. A box will be outside the Meriwether Lewis office for your donations. For more
information, call MLS Alumni Adam and Ben Schiller at (434) 970-7997. Thank you.
