Calling all Meriwether Parents

We will be electing a new PTO Board for the 2008-09
School Year during the general PTO meeting this Thursday,
May 22 at 7:00pm in the gym.

Here are the candidates! And thanks for voting!

Co-Presidents (2):

Randy Switz
Randy and his better half, Joanne, have two boys at MLS.
Sam is a rising 3rd grader and Henry will be beginning
his MLS years in kindergarten. Randy is a proud alum of
the University of Richmond. He runs his own real estate
appraisal firm and has been co-vice president on the
MLS Board for the past year.

Bob Beard
Bob and his better half, Ellen, have two boys at MLS as
well. Ryan and Wesley are both rising 3rd graders. Bob
is a graduate of Vanderbilt and Georgetown and is a writer
and independent television producer. He has served as
co vice-president on the MLS Board for the past year.

Co- Vice Presidents (2):

Holly Bittle
Holly and her husband, Mark, were redistricted from
Crozet to MLS this year. They are the parents of a 2nd
grader, Emma, and a kindergartener, Rose. Holly served
on the PTO Board as the Staff Support Director and
volunteered in the copy center, library and in her daughters’
classrooms. She is also the project manager for the “Play
Ground Puddles to World Waterways” program which is
working to raise grant money to build a rain garden and
outdoor classroom on MLS grounds. Holly has an MBA and
a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech and has
worked for Albemarle County as a Management Analyst
in the County Executive’s Office.

Linda Hahn
Linda and her husband, Gordon, have four children, two at
MLS. Dylan will be in 4th grade next year and Heidi will be
in 3rd grade. Linda grew up here and attended Albemarle
County schools. She holds a BS from Virginia Tech and
works as Travel Coordinator at the Senior Center. Linda
volunteers at both MLS and at Henley. Some of her
volunteer responsibilities include Home Room
Parent, Chaperone and Trip Organizer. Her leadership and
initiative in building a strong partnership of multi-generational
activities with Senior Center members and MLS students
has been beneficial to both!

Treasurer:

Jeff Hetmanski
Jeff is a new parent to MLS! He has worked at UVA Medical
Center for 8 years holding various financial roles.  He and
his wife Sarah have two children, Hannah, who will be starting
kindergarten, and Spencer, who is turning two in September.
Both Jeff’s kids attended UVA Medical Center’s childcare
facility where he served as the Parent Group Treasurer for
the past 3 years.  Jeff hopes to support the financial functions
of the PTO and facilitate appropriate spending as determined
by the organization.  Jeff looks forward to volunteering his
services on the board and also in Hannah's classroom!

Secretary:

Katie Ryan
Katie and her husband, Jim, have had children at MLS for
4 years. Next year, Sam will be in 4th grade and Ben will
be a 2nd grader.  The Ryan’s also have a two-year-old named
Phebe.  Katie has been a regular classroom volunteer in her
children's classes and has helped with special events over
the year, such as the spring fun run and skate night. Jim is
a law professor at UVA and represented Meriwether Lewis
on the County Schools redistricting committee several
years ago.

Thanks to all those who are volunteering their time and energy to serve!
