Take the Journey ~ Summer 2006
Students are invited to move through history this summer as they hike, bike, canoe, and pod along the Journey Through Hallowed Ground, the Route 15 corridor in central Virginia
boasting innumerable historical treasures. Their mission is to unlock the stories and lessons
of our nation's history as they work with expert historians, archaeologists, and national park guides. Along the path, students will record the trials and triumphs from the Revolutionary period through the Civil War using state-of-the-art video iPods and digital cameras to create
a vodcast journaling their experiences. The Journey Through Hallowed Ground will use this video journal, requiring careful analysis and creative expression by students, as an authentic promotional tool. Specific sites and activities include, but are not limited to, biking along the C&O Canal tow path, canoeing the Potomac, hiking Antietam, digging at Ash Lawn, and sleuthing in the Quaker town of Waterford. Enrollment limited to 25 students.
