Dear Murray Families,
On Monday, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings named 320
schools nationwide as 2008 No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools.
Among them is Virginia L. Murray Elementary School, one of seven public
schools in the Commonwealth and eleven total schools, public and
private, in Virginia to earn this distinction.
We are very proud of this accomplishment because it reflects on all of
our students, staff, and families who make Murray such a wonderful
school. A major focus of our school over the years has been to develop a
sense of community among our students and to develop a collaborative
spirit among staff. Whenever I am asked to describe our school, I begin
by talking about Murray as a community school, a great place for all of
us to grow.
Our Superintendent, Dr. Pam Moran said that, "We are proud of Murray
Elementary's consistent achievement for all of its students, not only on
standardized assessments, but also on developing critical thinking,
digital literacy, and other 21^st century skills. For a school to
achieve at this highest possible level, takes a dedicated community of
parents, students, faculty and people who value education and make it a
priority that all children succeed." I appreciate Dr. Moran's comments,
and I thank our Murray families for their support in helping all of our
Murray children be successful.
Next week at our Back to School Night, we will have a small celebration
to recognize this achievement. Our start time will be 6:00 pm, and I
encourage all of our parents to attend.
Sincerely,
Andy Grider
Principal
