1. County Schools Seek Applicants for Redistricting Committee and Extends
Deadline for Applications
Local residents interested in helping Albemarle County balance enrollment
with capacity in county schools are invited to apply for membership on the
division’s Redistricting Committee. This Committee will work this fall on a
comprehensive redistricting plan, considering all grades and all schools.
The main objectives for this committee will be to address identified split
feeder pattern issues, to plan for straight feeder patterns countywide where
appropriate, and to populate current and planned facilities K-12 with phased
in implementation as facilities are ready.  The Redistricting Committee is a
Superintendent's Committee comprised of the current Long Range Planning
Committee members and eight new members representing each of the six
magisterial districts and two at-large members.

The committee will convene in October and meet at least twice monthly to
establish boundaries for each of the county’s schools.

2. Equity & Diversity Committee Applications
Albemarle County Public Schools Equity & Diversity Committee is currently
accepting applications.  The deadline for applications is October 7.  The
committee is seeking members for the following positions:  Parents,
Classified Staff, Community member, Business member and At-Large.  For more

3.  PREP/Parent Resource Center Workshop
What Does It Take To Get Along? Helping Your Child Learn Anger Management,
Impulse Control, and Empathy Skills.  This is a workshop presented by Beth
Bowers, M.Ed.  Ms. Bowers is a former teacher at Ivy Creek School and is
currently the Coordinator for the Piedmont Regional Education Program.  The
workshop will take place on Thursday, October 7, 2004 from 6:30 – 8:30 P.M.
at the Albemarle Resource Center located at 1200 Forest Street in

4. 2005 Junior Olympic Volleyball
The Charlottesville Area Volleyball Club (CAV) is sponsoring Junior Olympic
Volleyball.  Junior Olympic volleyball is a travel club program that
participates in USA Volleyball's Old Dominion Region and is for girls 10-18.
Tryouts are in December, practices start in January and tournaments run from
February to May.  Team selection is based on skill and then age -- players
cannot play below their age but can play up as determined by the coaching
staff.  Practices are held at Charlottesville area schools 2 - 3 times per
week, 2 during the week and one on Sunday.  Tournaments are held in
Richmond, Williamsburg, Harrisonburg, Tidewater, Roanoke, Powatan, etc.
Costs range from $150 - $250 for 14's and under to $250 - $350 for 15's &
16's to $350+ for 17's & 18's.  For more information or questions about the
