Dear Parent Council representatives:

Another school year is almost upon us!  I hope the past two months have
given you the opportunity to relax and recharge your batteries.  I want to
welcome you to the Albemarle County Schools Parent Council - whether you're
a new representative to the organization or a returning "veteran".  This
year, as was the case last year, our focus each month will be to receive
important briefings on School Division-specific or general education topics;
to share ideas with one another on PTO activities at our respective schools;
and to get involved - as needed & as appropriate - on education-related
issues, such as "Students Make a Difference Day" (October 22nd) and the
local school budget.

I also have one goal that can only be achieved with your help:  to have 100%
representation by the county's schools at each of the Parent Council's 10
meetings this year.  The schools that have been the most active in attending
PC meetings have discovered the value that results from their presence.  I
want to see that value spread to schools in all corners of the county in
2005-06!

Several quick housekeeping items & important announcements about the Parent
Council's meeting schedule to start the year:

*	If you no longer are a Parent Council representative and wish to be
removed from this listserver, let us know by sending an unsubscribe message

*	If you know who has succeeded you at the school where you were the
PC rep last year, please do us the favor of providing that information.
It's important that we have a full roster of school reps to start the new
school year.  Send a message with the new name to both Christy Sinatra at
the School Division and Tammy Skinner.  Christy's email is
csinatra at k12albemarle.org <mailto:csinatra at k12albemarle.org> .  It also
would be appreciated if you would forward this email to that new rep.

*	Although our 1st three meetings will be exceptions to this rule (see
details below), the Parent Council normally will meet the first Tuesday of
each month at 7:00pm in Room 320 of the County Office Building.

Speaking of meetings . . . 

The first Parent Council meeting will be earlier than usual:  Tuesday,
August 30th, not September 6th as originally planned.  Having the inaugural
meeting in August will enable us to have Superintendent Castner attend to
offer his final thoughts and observations before beginning his transition to
retirement.  An agenda for this meeting will follow, but please mark it now
on your calendar.

There will still be a meeting in September also:  on Tuesday, September
20th.  In October, because of Rosh Hashanah, the PC meeting will be the
second Tuesday of the month - on October 11th.  In November, we'll finally
revert to the regular first Tuesday of the month routine.

I'm excited about the plans that are in place for the Parent Council this
coming year, and hope that this excitement will be contagious!  If you have

Thank you for being an advocate for quality public education in this
community, and for the commitment you are making to the Parent Council.  I
