AGENDA

 

Meeting Objectives:  Provide an overview of School Division and School Board priorities; an orientation on Parent Council's purposes and plans; and learn the primary area(s) of focus for each school's parent-teacher organization.

 

Desired Outcomes:  Become more familiar with the School Division, the School Board and the Parent Council; begin the process of sharing ideas amongst the county's public schools.

 

 

1.  (7:00 - 7:10pm)            Welcome and introductions - Parent Council President Chip Deale and Parent Council officers

 

2.  (7:10 - 7:25pm)            "Reflections on a Decade of Service" - Dr. Kevin Castner, Superintendent of Schools

 

3.  (7:25 - 7:35pm)            Strategic Plan Overview; Focus of Community Engagement office - Chris Dyer, Director of Community Engagement

 

4.  (7:35 - 7:45pm)            School Board Update - Gordon Walker, School Board Chair

 

5.  (7:45 - 7:55pm)            "Students Make a Difference Day" (Sat., Oct. 22) - June Smith, Citizen Education Coordinator

 

6.  (7:55 - 8:15pm)            Getting to Know One Another - Self-introductions by school representatives, with brief statement of their school's/PTO's area(s) of focus and priority this school year

 

7.  (8:15 - 8:20pm)            Parent Council "housekeeping" business - voluntary contributions by PTOs; website revisions; listservers; etc.

 

8.  (8:20 - 8:50pm)            Parent Council's plans for the coming year - review of & group discussion on the focus of monthly meetings; community outreach activities; involvement in the county budget development process; etc.

 

9.  (8:50 - 9:00pm)            "Good and Welfare" - An opportunity for any representative who wishes to do so to offer thoughts, comments, ideas, opinions, etc. on any Parent Council, school, or general education-related topic.  "Good and welfare" is a time for individual reflection, not group discussion.

 

10. (9:00pm)              Adjourn until September 20th
