Subject: [PC Discuss] Parent Council meeting reminder and pre-meeting"homework"
Greetings everyone -
I hope you all had a peaceful and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday and are not being overwhelmed by the commercial onslaught of the holiday season!
The purpose of this message is two-fold: 1st, to remind you of the next Parent Council meeting, which is scheduled for next Tuesday, December 6th at 7:00pm in the County Office Building. The meeting agenda includes an update on CATEC activities; an open dialogue with School Board representatives; an idea exchange on school/PTO-sponsored programs targeted to parents and guardians; and a School Division report on several important initiatives. So, please be sure your school is represented - and in deference to the full agenda, make every effort to arrive on time or a few minutes early.
2nd, in advance of the meeting, I would ask you all to accept two "homework" assignments. The first assignment is to review draft Policy FB (attached as a Word document) that pertains to facilities planning and redistricting. Diane Behrens from the School Division will be at our meeting next week to summarize the policy and receive your reaction to it. You also are welcome to send questions or comments about Policy FB to Christy Sinatra ( csinatra at k12albemarle.org) prior to the meeting.
The second homework assignment is to review the proposed High School Program of Studies document for next year that has been posted on the school division website. Regina Kirk, who leads this project, requests that Parent Council members read the document and provide her with any feedback to improve its readability. Regina needs comments by December 7 (the document goes to the School Board on 12/8). They can be e-mailed to her at rkirk at k12albemarle.org or provided by phone at 296-5820, ext. 3346. The draft document is located on the school division website at www.k12albemarle.org <http://www.k12albemarle.org/> and is included in a listing of links in the section titled "In the News" on the right side of the page.
Thanks for your cooperation and I look forward to seeing you again next week!
