Registration Open for Summer "Passports" Spanish-language Program
Students can learn about the world this summer without leaving Albemarle County through a special world languages exploratory program called "Passports." Students in grades K-5 will travel through the Spanish-speaking world exploring various festivals in Hispanic countries to validate passports in nine areas ranging from music and weather to geography and customs.
The half-day program will run from July 5-14 from 8 a.m. to noon at Agnor-Hurt Elementary School, located at 3201 Berkmar Drive in Charlottesville. Passports will be led by teachers Sally Strickler of Greer Elementary School and Kristin Copley of Monticello High School.
Registration is limited to 24 students and taken on a first-come, first-served basis. The tuition for Passports is $200 per child which includes a $50 non-refundable deposit. Parents, Children can Visit the "Bugs' World"
The Eastern Branch of the Entomological Society of America is hosting an insect "happening" for parents and children on Sun., March 12. "It's A Bug's World" features displays, exhibits, book signings, and lots of live bugs. Admission is free. The event takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Omni Hotel located at 235 West Main Street in Charlottesville. For more information, call (434) 979-5500.
