Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year Award

The Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year grant is awarded annually to recognize outstanding local teachers and the schools from which they teach. Through an in-store nomination and balloting process that will take place through February 28, one outstanding teacher is recognized locally. The winning teacher is recognized on National Teacher's Day and a $1,000 grant is made payable to the school in their honor. All local winners are encouraged to apply for the State grant which awards a $10,000 grant payable to their school. There is also one National Teacher grant of $25,000 payable to their school. Last year's local winner was Ann Smith from Walker Elementary (Charlottesville City Schools).

 A nomination form includes:

1) Teacher's name

2) School name

3) Name of person completing the nomination

4) Reason for nominating the teacher. Include qualities or accomplishments that set this teacher apart from others. Specifically identify special qualities showing that the teacher goes above and beyond the normal expectation.

Nomination forms can be found on the Wal-Mart Foundation website at www.walmartfoundation.org <http://www.walmartfoundation.org/> under the "Education" link.
