Students Culminate Year-long Partnership with Local Architecture,
Engineering and Construction Mentors with Project Fair and Scholarship
Awards;

Second Annual ACE Celebration, April 27, 2009 6:30 p.m.

 

(ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Virginia) - Thirty Albemarle County Public Schools
high school students will present their final design projects, "The
Patriot," "The Emerald Mall," and "Crozet Athletic Center" at the Second
Annual ACE Celebration, April 27, 2009 at  6:30 p.m. in Lane Auditorium
at the County Office Building.  College scholarships, sponsored by The
Associated General Contractors of Virginia - Piedmont District and
Nielsen Builders, will be awarded during the celebration.

 

ACE is an acronym for Architecture, Construction, and Engineering and
the ACE Mentor Program is a partnership among industry professionals
-architects, interior designers, engineers, construction managers,
college and university representatives and other professionals from
related corporations and professional organizations who work together to
attract young people to their professions.

 

This is the second year Albemarle County Public Schools has implemented
this national program.  Students from all three county high schools
participated in teams working with four mentors from local architecture,
construction, and engineering firms. The mentor sessions are held after
school, once a week for 14 weeks.  Students worked together to complete
a design project, which will be showcased at this event.
