What gets published in the Patriot Progress

Ever wonder what and how information gets published in this newsletter?

Generally WHAT is any and everything of a wide spread general nature relating to AHS, the students, the staff, or the building!

HOW and WHERE does this information come from? YOU = or people like you: teachers, coaches, counselors, booster club representatives, students, or even just plain ole parents!

In a school with over 1700 students and well over faculty and other staff, it is impossible for any one person to know what is going on in all corners of AHS. I rely on your input. As you may have noticed my tagline = EDITOR of the important information, not necessarily the GENERATOR.

If you are someone with information to share, please take on the task to write a paragraph and send it to me. Who else knows the events, opportunities, or praises better that the one most closely involved? No one else could speak as accurately, or as passionately about your favorite topic than YOU.

ADDIDIONALLY, I review the daily announcements summary that is read each day on the morning broadcast at school. I am in close contact with the people that handle the internal communications of AHS. They are wonderful about sharing with me information for you. I review the building use calendar for unusual events. I subscribe to various school and community news
letters that publish information related specifically to education and school opportunities.

All information is subject to validation. Please provide backup contact information if necessary. And keeps those note coming!

SENIOR News

·           Financial Aid

Seniors who are applying to college are encouraged to apply as soon as possible after January 1, 2009.  Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, or download and complete a PDF version of the FAFSA at www.FederalStudentAid.edu.gov (Note: PDF FAFSAs must be mailed for processing).

You may pick up a copy of the Federal Student Aid Worksheet in the school counseling office, room 260.  Please note the date to submit the FAFSA application varies from college to college. Check with the financial aid office of the college to which you are applying for deadline dates.

On January 12, 2009 at 6:30pm, Albemarle High School Counseling Department will sponsor a Financial Aid Workshop. This workshop is to help parents, guardians and students in completing the Financial Aid Form.  Please attend!

Super Saturday will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Charlottesville High School from 10am to 3pm. This event also helps with completing the financial aid applications.

PSAT Scores and What they mean

PSAT SCORES- WHAT DO THE SCORES MEAN?

WHAT COURSES DO I NEED TO TAKE TO GET INTO COLLEGE?

Junior and Sophomore PSAT scores will be distributed soon.

PLEASE do not discard PSAT report sheet.

The report sheet contains the student's personal log on number for a very valuable free service (MyRoad) from College Board. Parents can learn how to interpret these scores and use the MyRoad Service in a workshop for parents on January 20 at 6:30pm @ AHS.

At 7pm Mrs. Valerie Gregory of UVA will discuss course selections for college.
