*Book Character Day. *Friday, October 29th, is Book Character Dress-Up Day.
This is our day to show how much Red Hill LOVES books!

Here are some simple reminders to help you plan your child’s costume:

   - Costumes must represent a *book* character.
   - Choose a character appropriate for an *elementary school environment*.

   - Costumes should be planned for comfort; they will be worn all day.
   - Keep it simple and fun! Homemade is GREAT!!!!!
   - No toy weapons, masks, fake (or real!) blood, etc.
   - Costumes should not be “scary”. Keep in mind, we have students as young
as 4 years old in our school and we want everyone to enjoy the day.

 If in doubt, give your child’s teacher, Ms. Tarrant, or Mr. Stow a call;
we’ll be glad to offer suggestions or answer questions. *293 – 5332*

*The PTO Fall Carnival is this Saturday!!! *Come out to Red Hill from 3:00
pm until 6:00 pm for an afternoon filled with games, food, and fun. Activities
include the Boo House, Cake Walk, Dunk Tank, Silent Auction, and Raffle. If
you have not yet sent in your donations of candy or items for the silent
auction/raffle, please do so by Wednesday. Baked goods should be brought to
school on Friday prior to 4:00 pm or on Saturday by 2:50 pm. Please contact
Laura Taylor at lbtaylor at embarqmail.com or 977-9059 TODAY to let her know
how you can help with games, set-up, or clean-up.

* *

*Carnival Cakewalk.* Start your baking now! One of the more popular
activities at the Fall Carnival is the Cakewalk. For this we need many
cakes or other bakes goods, such as pies, cookies, and brownies. Prizes
will be awarded for the Biggest Baked Good, the Best Seasonally Decorated,
and “Looks” Like it Tastes the Best. Baked goods may be brought to school
on Friday, October 29th before 4:00 pm or with you on Saturday, October
30st. Judging for the Cake Decorating Contest will be at 2:55 pm on
Saturday. *Please* do not send baked goods to school on the bus. Thanks!

*Fall Carnival Photographer.* The PTO needs a volunteer to take some photos
of the Fall Carnival for the Red Hill Yearbook. Please contact Carmen
Trimble at ctrimble at esinet.net if you can help.

*Make a Difference Day: Mason Jars for Mason.* Between Oct. 14th and Oct.
28th the Kids Care Club at Red Hill will be collecting change for the Ishan
Gala Foundation in honor of our own Mason Thomas. Mason has been fighting
Neuroblastoma for several years and is currently undergoing treatments
again. The Ishan Gala Foundation strives to raise funds to assist families
with the financial burdens of having a child fighting this life-altering
disease and to support the research initiatives necessary to make it
possible for no parent to never again hear the words “there is nothing else
we can do for your child.”

During these two weeks we will continue a tradition begun last year by
Mason’s 4th grade teacher, Mr. Mohr. Jars will be located in each classroom
and the office. Students will be encouraged to honor Mason by dropping a
donation in a jar and supporting the Foundation that supports him. Send in
loose change or bills in a container/baggie/envelope clearly marked “Mason
Jar Donation” (to avoid any confusion with other events). Parents and
community members may also bring in donations. Checks will be accepted if
they are made out to “Ishan Gala Foundation.”

Kids Care Club will be placing jars in the community and selling VA Diner
products as an additional fundraiser for this project. See a 5th grade Kids
Care member or visit www.virginiadiner.com if you wish to order (select Red
Hill Kids Care Club at checkout).

Thank you for your support!
