Sunday 6 May

To RRC Members:

Here are various bits of information as we head into summer, grouped
here to limit the amount of stuff filling your mailbox

1. For current members - please remember to renew your membership
(membership forms and liability waivers at www.rivannarowing.org)
The 2006 membership expires at the end of this month (ie the
membership year is May to May).

2. We have two events on Saturday May 12: Learn to Row Day (our
regular open house to newcomers) and Equipment Maintenance Day. I
have a list of volunteers for LTR Day (and those folks will receive a
e mail from me by Wednesday, describing jobs, etc). Please note, we
need other folks to show up for equipment maintenance day -- which
Gary Sloan will manage.

3. LTR Day has two sessions - at 9 am and 11 am on Saturday. We
hope for a big turnout, given our turbo-charged marketing (led by
Scott Stroney). Folks planning to attend LTR day can get directions
from the RRC website.

4. The VRA has already started the boathouse construction project
(note the missing stairs to the erg room). The project is an
expansion towards the parking lot. Work will be in full swing
starting tomorrow. Kevin thinks we will lose about half the parking
lot, so he urges folks to plan to park in the field.

5. I will be away for much of the summer, and Ellen Ramsey will be
the new boathouse captain for the duration (thanks Ellen). If all
runs as it should, her work will mainly involve captain's tests. You
can contact her at ellen at virginia.edu I know she can count on help
from many of you.

6. The regular sweep season starts on Monday May 14. We have two
nearly new eights, great coaches (check out the web), and lots of
rowers with high school and or college experience. So sign up and
come out, it should be a great season.

7. PLEASE REGISTER IN ADVANCE FOR ANY PROGRAM (all forms are
available on line -- be sure to include the liability waive), and
mail in your payment to the address given on the form. We will take
completed forms and payments on the first day of a program. But we
must have your payment before you get into a boat. We are volunteers
running this club, and we do not have the time to keep track of late
payments.

8. We have a smooth and effective partnership with the Virginia
coaches and teams and with the VRA. This summer those
organizations will have an unusual number of activities -- various
rowing programs and the boathouse project. So let's all take some
extra care to follow the rules, keep out of each other's way, help
out, and advance rowing for all on the Rivanna.

Thanks,

Jack -- on behalf of the RRC Board
