At the annual Fall members' meeting last night, several new people were
elected to fill vacancies left by retiring board members, and a new president was
elected.
First, we'd like to thank the following board members who completed one (or
more) terms and are retiring.
Suzan Pezzoli, who completed at least two two-year terms, and possibly more.
She retires with the unchallenged title Queen of the Excel Spreadsheets. We
appreciate all the time Suzan has put in over the years, especially her work
with registration records and the program committee.
Andrea Czarkowski and Amelia Camacho, who each completed a two-year term, are
retiring from the board but hopefully will be around next season to continue
as part of the enormously popular LTR Trio (AC + AC + Scott). They taught more
than 50 people to row last season, and what's even more impressive is that
about 40% stayed on to row novice. Their enthusiasm and encouragement of new
members were outstanding. Amelia also has served as secretary for the past two
years, a job she did with complete reliability.
Jaime Myers also retired from the board, having completed a two-year term.
Jaime's extraordinary generosity and his in-depth knowledge of the sport (both
locally and nationally) make him hard to replace. Jaime's a big-hearted guy who
genuinely loves the sport and loves to see people enjoy themselves—on the
water and off.
We welcome new board members: novice rower Kate Mora, sweep rowers Dorothy
Shafer and Joe Vanischak, and sculler/sweeper David Zuby.
And a special welcome to new RRC president Gary Sloan. Gary has been RRC
Equipment Manager for the past two years. Gary's conscientiousness and
level-headedness make him a great choice for president.
Board members who will remain on the board are Jack Brown, Mike Hatz, Mary
Maher, Merrick Murray, Stacie Reid (our new treasurer), and Scott Stroney.
Although I will remain on the board for one more year, I've completed my two
years as president (Hope I can now go on the lecture circuit and make a lotta
money.) This is without a doubt the best board I've ever been on anywhere, and
I've enjoyed working with every one of them. As a result of a lot of effort
by a lot of people—board members, club members, staff, UVa coaches and boatmen,
and our VRA "landlords"—RRC winds down the 2007 season in good shape. We look
forward to building on this year's successes as we begin planning for 2008—
which basically begins now.
Thanks to all who came to the meeting last night and to everyone who supports
the club year-round.
Mary
