To All RRC Members Rowing This Fall:
Most mornings in the Fall, the reservoir will be blanketed with fog
as the air temperature commonly falls much lower than the water
temperature. Whenever there is fog, visibility is greatly impaired.
In any condition of impaired visibility, RRC HAS AN IRONCLAD RULE
THAT YOU MUST ROW WITH A LIGHT. In fact two lights are desirable, so
you have a better chance of showing up to vessels ahead and astern.
The club does provide some bow lights, but all scullers are
particularly urged to buy their own lights. Flashing red LEDs from
bike shops work well and are cheap.
Here is the bottom line - NEVER ROW WITHOUT A GOOD LIGHT. Failure to
honor this rule will result in immediate suspension of rowing
privileges. I am sorry if this appears drastic, but this rule is
long standing, and there simply is no room for laxity on this vital
safety matter.
