RRC Board Meeting Minutes
July 9, 2008
Financial Report - Stacie
A modest deficit in income vs. operating expenses is
projected for this year, but sufficient funds are in-hand to cover
all anticipated expenses. A summary of program enrollment was
presented.
Summer program enrollees:
24 LTR, session 1; 29 LTR, session 2
6 novice, session 1; 15 novice, session 2 (includes 9
LTR grads)
38 advanced sweep rowers
9 racing program rowers
49 sculling memberships
LTR/Novice Program Update - Scott
The board acknowledged Scott Stroney's generous contributions
to the novice and LTR programs. He volunteers considerable effort in
a variety of ways to make these programs successful. Mike and Scott
have established a good partnership in LTR that supports new rowers
and welcomes them to RRC. Thank you, Scott!
Mike and Tim are terrific coaches and teachers; rowers come
out of each program with solid basic skills. The coaches expect
quality rowing from the rowers and the rowers live up to those
expectations.
Coxing update: Emily is the new coxswain coordinator. Stacie
purchased a coxing guide (book and CD) for use by any coxswain and
RRC member interested in brushing up on coxing skills. The need for
consistent experienced coxing for LTR and novice boats was discussed.
Volunteer coxes should be confident and sufficiently experienced;
they are helpful in calming and coaching (a little bit) the
LTR/novice rowers from their special vantage point in the boat. Scott
has particularly requested that rowers with experience coxing sign up
for the early sessions when LTR begins rowing in 8s. Coaches are
cautioned against using inexperienced rowers as coxes. The
possibility of using paid coxes for LTR and other strategies to get
experienced coxes for LTR/novice boats were discussed.
LTS - LTS-Intermediate Programs
The Board is still looking for a coach for the LTS programs.
Boathouse Captain Report - David Z.
All is in order at the boathouse. A minor issue concerning
trash was discussed. Joe will check about getting donations of
additional bathroom supplies.
Equipment Report - Joe V.
Excessive wear and tear on gunnels of larger boats due to
sliding them on the racks was noted. Coaches and coxes will be
informed to ask rowers to lift boats off the racks, rather than
sliding them, if they need to be re-positioned. A few minor
equipment repairs are apparent, but some may not be worth doing
(i.e., HelenT impellor, Hudson 2x old wiring harness). Joe will
repair the stern rigger on the Brenda Myers as per Roger's
suggestions and check the seat magnets on all boats. A project is
planned for later in the summer to reconfigure inside racks to hold
boats of renters using combination storage. Club boats sorely need
cleaning and a workday will be scheduled soon.
Web Site - Mike
Mike will do website updates as needed while on vacation. He
will set up an archive tab for RRC Board meeting minutes.
Board Member Replacements
Mike will coordinate formation of a nominating committee to
identify candidates for upcoming open positions on the RRC Board.
Sunset Regatta
Mark your calendars for the Sunset Regatta on Sunday, August
10th at 5:00 PM. Details and volunteer requests will be sent out and
posted in the boathouse in the end of July. Kate M. will coordinate
planning and recruiting volunteers. Joe and Scott will check on
getting some donations of food and partyware.
August 2008 Board Meeting Date - Wednesday, August 6th, 6:30 PM, at
Gary Sloan's house
