RRC is offering a program in sculling instruction (LTS) in the month of July,
with coach Mike Hankinson who has completed sculling coaching internships at
Craftbury Sculling Center in Vermont. Mike has also been the club's Learn to
Row coach this summer.

Depending on the level of interest, we will offer an LTS Beginners and/or an
LTS Intermediate.

LTS Beginners is for people who have little or no sculling experience and
would like to learn the basics of sculling and to generally become familiar with
the sport. LTS Beginners start out in a quad, move to doubles and possibly to
singles by the end of the session. LTS Beginners class consists of 12 sessions
within a 4-week period. Each session will hold up to 4 students. (Multiple
sections may be scheduled). Exact days/times of the sessions will be determined
by the coach and his students. Cost: $480 (does not include annual membership
fee if LTS grads pass a Captain's Test and wish to continue sculling through
May 2009)

Intermediate LTS is for people who have some sculling experience in singles
and have passed a Captain's Test (Arrangements can be made to take a Captain's
Test before the class begins.) LTS-Intermediate would consist of 6 sessions
with a 2-3 week period. Cost: $240 + $170 annual membership fee = $410

LTS fees are $40/hour for both coaching and equipment use. LTS sessions
usually run about 2 hours. For comparison, private sculling lessons in this area
generally run from $50-75/hour, with no equipment included.

If you are interested, please respond ASAP to jackbrown at virginia.edu Indicate
if you have an interest in LTS, Beginner or Intermediate.

Thank you,

Jack Brown
RRC board and boat house captain
