Subject: [RRC] Rocketts Results
RRC rowers came home from Richmond on Saturday a little heavier -- weighted down with big, fat medals! 12 RRC rowers/scullers participated in the 5th Annual Rockett's Landing Regatta, part of Richmond's day-long James River Adventure Games. The day started out pleasant enough but got a little hot in the late morning. It was great to have all the races concentrated in morning time slots.
Here are the results:
Mixed Masters 4+ (Mary, Joe, James & Amelia with Will coxing. yes, that's right. I said Will)
First Place
Women's Masters 4+ (Stacie, Suzan, Dorothy, Diana with Amelia coxing)
First Place
Mixed Masters 8+ (Karen, Mary, Joe, James, Stacie, Amelia, Diana, Merrick with Will coxing)
First Place
Men's Masters 2X (Joe & James)
Fourth or Fifth (not sure. perhaps someone will clarify as VBC doesn't have results posted)
Women's Masters 2X (Karen, Diana)
Second Place
Women's Masters 4X (Amelia, Mary, Merrick, Karen)
Second Place
Women's Masters 1X (Anne Sudar)
Again, apologies, but I don't have her finish placement)
Men's Masters 1X (Ben Bennett)
ditto
Thanks to Howard Pape for driving the trailer, and for man help from Grady Smith and Peter Bower.
Despite some incredulous comments from dockmasters when our coxswain Will managed to squeeze at least his left foot into the coxswain seat, the rowers rose to the challenge. "Oh, you think he's too big? Oh really? Well, watch this." And we took off like a shot. What he lacked in diminuative stature, he made up for in skill and strategerie.
Thanks to VBC for putting the regatta together. We all had a good time. It was a great start to our racing season.
Mary
