RRC Membership:

 

As we all look forward to another great rowing season on the Rivanna, I
would like to inform the membership of two fee increases your club Board has
initiated. 

 

1.  The Board raised the annual membership fee from $160 to $170.  For many
years, we have set the membership fee at a rate designed to cover all the
costs of operating the club (while program fees are set to cover the cost of
coached programs).  Beginning this year our club operating costs have
increased in three areas: insurance, rent to VRA, and bathroom cleaning
costs.  (Now that the UVA teams have new bathrooms, the UVA cleaners will
not clean the old bathrooms, so we have hired a service for biweekly
cleaning.) 

 

2.  The Board has initiated a new Club Equipment Use fee of $40.  This
begins with the new membership year starting May 15, 2008.  Anyone using
club boats, sweep or sculling, outside of a coached program must first pay
this fee.  This fee will provide a funding source to maintain our boats in
conjunction to capital expenditure allocations to upgrade/replace our fleet
of boats.  If you plan to use club equipment, please look for this new form
on the website and send it in with your payment -- and your normal
membership form, annual dues, and liability waiver.   

 

The Board discussed these fees at some length before approving them and felt
it necessary to increase the fees in order to continue the quality rowing
experience we all expect from our club. The Board also acknowledges the club
remains a very good value and is cost competitive with other rowing clubs.
