RRC Members,

KEY DATE TO REMEMBER: Fall Members Meeting - Sunday October 12, 3:30PM at
the boathouse

I email you today reflecting on another great season of rowing at RRC, to
inform you of this year's events and of the club's fall membership meeting.

Our coached programs were successful once again, as was the newly
inaugurated Racing Program. The RP will return in 2009 and we anticipate
building up the program with even more participation from the membership.

Last winter, thanks to Diana Bower's efforts and the generosity of Kevin
Sauer providing the use of the erg room, an erg program was held to improve
and maintain conditioning during the off season. Watch for information on
this winter's erg program through the listserv.

We would appreciate your feedback on the club's operation this past year.

The club continues to move forward with the long-term equipment replacement
program established a few years ago. This year a 1X Peinert 25 and a Vespoli
stern coxed 4 were added to the fleet. And our club was the beneficiary of 8
sweep oars (a generous donation from Scott Stroney). After making the
equipment purchases and weathering increased operating costs, I am pleased
to announce the financials are strong. Financial statements will be
available at the fall meeting. 

As seasons change, so does the leadership of our club. We have three devoted
members whose terms on the board expire this fall. Mary Maher, completing
two consecutive, two-year terms  (former President), Jack Brown completing
two consecutive, two-year terms (former Vice President and current Boathouse
Captain) and Merrick Murray completing two consecutive, two-year terms
(former Treasurer). On behalf of the entire RRC board and myself, thank you
for your service, dedication and contributions to RRC over the years.

The club bylaws require two membership meetings each year. The fall meeting
will be held Sunday, October 12th, 3:30PM at the boathouse. During this
meeting the membership will elect, by majority vote, new directors to
replace Mary, Jack and Merrick. The nominees, to date, for the open board
positions are Ellen Ramsey, Nancy Kehoe and Phil Jewel. Additional nominees
will be accepted from the floor. 

The bylaws also require the voting membership to annually nominate and elect
the board president (the president serves a one-year term and is limited to
two consecutive terms). Nominees will be accepted from the floor at the fall
membership meeting.

After the meeting adjourns, we will organize a couple of friendly sprint
races in singles, doubles and coxed fours. So, come on out to the meeting to
participate in the election of your club board members and have some
competitive fun after the meeting.
