VDOT informed the Albemarle County School Board today that a traffic study
was just completed on the two intersections on Route 250 at Western
Albemarle High School and the Henley Middle School / Brownsville Elementary
complex in Crozet and that VDOT is recommending immediate placement of new
traffic signals at both intersections.

According to VDOT's Jim Utterback, "VDOT will begin designing the signals
immediately and this activity could take several weeks in order to obtain
boring data, location of utilities, and designing the structure. This will
be followed by scheduling contractor installation of the signal."

Several citizen activists helped get this safety issue on VDOT's radar.
Among them was WAHS student Charlotte Jump who was profiled in a Daily
Progress article on March 27, 2006.
