Brenda Miller, a Murray Elementary and Western Albemarle parent, asked me to
share some information about an initiative to get a youth center established
in the Crozet area. The Hillsboro Baptist Church has an old house that they
are providing to convert for this purpose. The organizers are planning to
have youth volunteers work over the summer to convert it into a "cool" and
safe place to hang out and participate in studying/tutoring starting this
Fall. With this message I am sharing below their announcement about an
upcoming launch event and fundraiser. Contact Brenda Miller for more
information.

The Hillsboro Baptist Church is endeavoring to open a youth center for all
youth from rising 6th graders through high school in our community. Our
goal is to open the youth center, which will be called "The Zone" when
school opens in the fall. The purpose of The Zone is to provide a safe,
loving environment for teens in the community to hangout after school.
Recognizing that teens need fellowship and encouragement from each other and
that the best way to reach kids is through kids. We're hoping to provide
peer-to-peer tutoring as well as tutoring from volunteers. To raise funds
for the renovations to the building, we are holding a huge fundraiser this
Saturday, June 10th to celebrate the end of the school year.
