Albemarle County School Board Announces Administrative Changes

(ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Virginia) - At its June 9, 2006 meeting, the Albemarle
County School Board approved the following administrative changes:

Alison Dwier-Selden was appointed as principal of Yancey Elementary School.
She has served as the assistant principal of Walton Middle School for the
past year. Prior to this she was the instructional coordinator for K-5
Language Arts for Albemarle County Public Schools for nine years. She
currently is pursuing her doctorate in Reading Education at the University
of Virginia where she also received her master's degree in the same
discipline. She earned a bachelor's degree in Early Education from the
College of William and Mary. She has taught in elementary schools in
Albemarle County and Gloucester, VA. Her background in reading and
elementary instruction will be an asset in leading the only Reading First
School in Albemarle County. Dwier-Selden is a product of Albemarle County
Public Schools and specifically expressed an interest in Yancey during her
interview.

Dr. William Sterrett was appointed as principal of Woodbrook Elementary
School. He served as the assistant principal of Johnson Elementary School
in Charlottesville City Public Schools for the past two years. He holds a
master's degree in Education and a doctorate in Educational Administration
and Supervision from the University of Virginia. He has taught in both
Charlottesville City Schools and in Kentucky at the middle school level. His
undergraduate career took place at Asbury College in Wilmore, KY where he
was awarded the Athletic Director's All-Academic Honors Award for the Men's
Basketball Team. He has a love of educating young children, leadership
skills and instructional knowledge in elementary education. He is published
in two educational journals, has received two educational grants for his
work and is a resident of Albemarle County. Sterrett values the opportunity
to lead Woodbrook into the future.
