The media release below related to school administrator changes was sent out
earlier today.  Superintendent Pam Moran that made the announcements at our
meeting last night.  Since some of my constituents have asked in the past if
the School Board makes decisions like this, I'll take this opportunity
(teachable moment as they say) to point out that we actually do not make
these decisions.  While the School Board is in the loop on any specific
school leadership decisions, the hiring and placing of principals is the job
of the Superintendent.  I wish all these administrators well in their new
positions!

Albemarle County Public Schools Announce Administrative Changes 


(ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Virginia) - At its May 11, 2006 meeting, the Albemarle
County School Board announced the following administrative changes effective
July 1, 2006:

Dave Rogers has been named the Principal of Sutherland Middle School.
Rogers currently serves as the Principal of Jouett Middle School.  He also
served previously as the Principal of Murray Elementary School.  Prior to
working in Albemarle County, he was the Principal of Walker Upper Elementary
School for the Charlottesville City School System.  Rogers holds a master's
degree from the University of Virginia.  He will replace Kathryn Baylor who
will be assuming the position of Principal at Jouett Middle.

Baylor has been named the Principal of Jouett Middle.  Baylor currently
serves as the Principal of Sutherland Middle.  She served as Assistant
Principal of Walton Middle School as well.  Baylor taught and coached in
Albemarle County from 1988-98 and worked as an Assistant Principal in Orange
County from 1998-2001.  She holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the
University of Virginia.  

Kyle Pursel has been named the Assistant Principal of Jouett Middle.  Pursel
currently serves as Assistant Principal of Sutherland Middle.  Pursel served
as a teacher at Woodbrook Elementary School from 1998 until 2005.  He has a
bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Illinois at
Urbana and a master's degree in education administration and supervision
from the University of Virginia.  Pursel will replace Betty Pitt who will be
assuming the position of Assistant Principal at Henley Middle School.

Pitt has been named an Assistant Principal of Henley Middle.  She currently
serves as Assistant Principal of Jouett Middle.  Prior to coming to
Albemarle County, Pitt served as a World Language teacher at Charlottesville
High School.  She also has worked in the language lab at the University of
Virginia.  She has a bachelor's degree in Latin American studies from
Douglass College, a master's degree in Spanish from the University of
Virginia, and has completed all the course work in the doctoral program in
educational evaluation at the Curry School of Education at the University of
Virginia.  She will be a new member of the Henley Middle administrative
staff.
