The Albemarle County School Board receives Superintendent Pam Moran's
FY2009-FY2010 budget recommendations at a special meeting on December 19th.
This will be our first two-year budget. I believe building a budget over
two years is a better planning tool and will improve efficiency in the
budgeting process. Another new approach is being introduced by local
government as the Board of Supervisors will be adopting a five-year balanced
financial plan. In the past, only the budgets proposed for the upcoming
fiscal year had to be balanced. Thus, the school division's budget will
also require a more thoughtful long-term look to support that objective.

You can access all the budget materials by visiting the following website:

I also expect a great number of improvements in the budget presentation that
will make it easier to understand how the school division is investing your
tax dollars. I worked on an ad-hoc committee making recommendations in this
area and I am anxious to see the results, particularly in a "Frequently
Asked Questions" section that should prove very popular.

As always, please send me your feedback on any and all aspects of the
budget. My constituent calendar lists the upcoming opportunities for public
input on the budget at school board meetings and the public hearing
scheduled for January 29th.
