I'll be attending this important forum on student alcohol use as one
representative of the School Board. I hope you will consider attending to
add your voice to the discussion. If you have children, bring them too.
Our Superintendent told us about a recent conversation she had with some of
our high school students about alcohol. When asked for ideas about what
could be done differently, a number of these students responded -- "Please
talk to our parents." This is one opportunity where we can start that
conversation.

Prevention, Intervention, and Consequences

Western Albemarle High School Cafeteria
The Western Albemarle High School PTO invites all Albemarle County high
school parents, students, and interested citizens to a special informative
panel program on prevention, warning signs, and intervention of student
alcohol/illegal drug use, as well as the related legal, motor vehicle, and
school-related consequences.
Panelists from a variety of perspectives will present material, followed by
a question-and-answer session for parents.
Our guest panelists and itinerary will be:
Parents Legal Rights and Responsibilities Jim Camblos,
Commonwealth's Attorney
Virginia State Laws concerning Minors and
Albemarle County
Alcohol/Illegal Drug Use
Albemarle County Police Procedures for Albemarle
County Police Traffic Division Authorities and
Minors with Possession/Use of Alcohol or John Gebhardt,
Albemarle County Police/WAHS School Resource Officer
Illegal Drugs
Albemarle County Athletic Training Policy Steve Heon, WAHS
Athletic Director
Guidance and Information for Parents: Chris
Lombardi, Region Ten Student Assistance Counselor, WAHS
Indicators, Tips, and Programs for Minors
Representatives from the Albemarle County School Board will also be present
to field questions during the question-and-answer session. Light
refreshments will be served.
