Dear Friend:

 

It is with great pleasure that the United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area
Volunteer Center announces the third annual  United Way Student Service
Award to recognize exceptional high school students for their outstanding
commitment to our community through volunteerism or service-learning.  The
United Way will recognize a student from each public and private high school
in Charlottesville and Albemarle during the Commission on Children and
Families Youth Service Work Group's 4th annual Celebration of Youth Service
on April 28, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. at the Monticello High School Auditorium.
United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area extends a heartfelt thanks to Piedmont
Virginia Community College for their generosity in making the awards and
celebration possible.

 

Students in grades 9 through 12 are eligible to receive the award.  We
encourage you to circulate the attached guidelines and nomination form to
all students who meet our criteria (or direct them to our website:
www.UnitedWayTJA.org/ServiceAwards.shtml).  Nominations must be submitted
directly to the United Way by March 19, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. and our panel of
judges will select a winner from each school.  Nominations may be submitted
by school faculty and staff, nonprofit organization staff, religious
leaders, and by the students themselves.

 

All nominees will be recognized during the Celebration of Youth Service.
Winners will receive an award while each school will be given an engraved
plate to add to the plaque you received last year at the ceremony.  

 

Nominations should be submitted to the United Way-Thomas Jefferson Area by
March 19, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.  Please mail to United Way Student Service
