Thursday, December 13th at 9:30 A.M. there will be a Spring Festival meeting in the large conference room. ANYONE who is interested in helping out, please feel free to come to the meeting if you can. We are going to talk about our theme, get our committee(s) organized and start planning!

The Lost & Found: Please collect any of your missing items by Wednesday the 19th, or they will be sent on to Good Will Industries.

Fundraising Updates:

Dining and Attractions Coupon book: Thank you to everyone who participated in this great fundraiser. We made over $3400! Please remember to turn in any unsold books asap. Thank you to Teresa Clay for making this sale such a big success.

Pointsettia sales: Thank you to Laurie Keville and Angie Mooney for working hard to sell those beautiful plants. We made nearly $400!

Giant/Grocery Store cards: we currently have 152 people who designate Stone-Robinson on their grocery store cards. This simple fundraiser is earning us an average of $600 a month! While 152 people is great, we know we can do even better...and it costs you nothing to do this. Sign up your out of town relatives, your neighbors, anyone can participate!

How do I register? There are several easy ways to do this: 1) If you’re willing to provide your food store card number and the first 3 letters of your last name, the PTO will do the legwork for you. Just email that information to Sasha Noble at SNoble20268 at msn.com. 2) go to the Giant website and click on the A+ Bucks link and it will take you to the place where you can designate Stone-Robinson (you’ll need to know your card number). SRE’s number is 02399. 3) Giant has forms you can fill out and just put SRE’s number (02399)

As a reminder, the money that the SRE PTO raises goes to needed items for teachers and classrooms, field trips and transportation costs, scholarship programs and so much more. These funds benefit not only our school, but our community as well.

PEOPLE NEEDED FOR ENRICHMENT
Do you have a hobby/craft/sport/talent that you can share with SRE students? If so, please consider signing up to teach an enrichment class. They meet once a week for 4-6 weeks. Enrichment activities have included: crocheting, knitting, arts and crafts, sports of all kinds, etc. You can get paid to teach these classes too! Contact Angela Gurley for more information at atamberr at peoplepc.com

>From the Superintendent: Efficiency Study Results Presented to School Board

Results from a five-month study commissioned by Albemarle County Public Schools to suggest options the division can explore to maximize use of resources was presented to the School Board at its December 6, 2007 meeting.

The 58-page Resource Utilization Study report from the Commonwealth Educational Policy Institute (CEPI) at Virginia Commonwealth University was presented by Dr. William Bosher, a former Virginia superintendent of schools who serves as the CEPI executive director. The primary purpose of the report is to assist the division in identifying ways to better align and allocate its resources to support achievement of strategic planning goals. The report included 176 findings and observations, and 117 recommendations in eight focus areas.

Bosher presented the School Board with a summary of the report focused on 19 key issues. He described Albemarle County Public Schools as a division with ambitious goals and a results-focused culture.

“I have been in every school division in Virginia and this is an outstanding school district. The real issue is not whether or not you have the right values, it’s about whether or not you can afford the values at the rate at which you might want to implement them,” Bosher told the School Board.

The School Board did not take action on any findings in the Resource Utilization Study Report during its December 6, 2007 meeting. It established a plan for thorough review of the CEPI findings. The review will begin at a School Board work session December 13 at 6 p.m. when Board Members will have the opportunity to ask Bosher questions about the report and begin prioritizing findings to be explored by division staff for short-term and long-term planning purposes. The meeting will be held in Room 320 of the Albemarle County Office Building at 401 McIntire Road in Charlottesville. The report is available to the public online at http://schoolcenter.k12albemarle.org/Board/resourcestudy.

“We know there will be some findings the School Board may want to consider in the 2008-09 school year budget development process and others that will require more long-term consideration. The goal for both the short-term and long-term is to use the information to create efficiencies in our school system,” said Superintendent Pamela Moran, Ed.D.

The Resource Utilization Study was requested by the School Board in June 2007 as a strategy for achieving the Albemarle County Public Schools’ strategic planning goal to establish efficient systems for development, allocation and alignment of resources to support the division’s vision, mission and goals.
