PTO: What You Need To Know: Here are a few activities that the PTO will be spearheading over the next couple of months, and areas where we might need volunteers...
Poinsettia sale – these are absolutely gorgeous! An order form will be sent home soon. They will be ready for pick-up around Thanksgiving.
Entertainment Book sale – for the first time, Stone-Robinson will be selling Entertainment Coupon books. They quickly pay for themselves with the money-saving coupons inside. Nearly every one of your favorite restaurants or shops is included, and it really doesn’t take long to pay for the book. More information about these will be coming home soon. There will be a pizza party, courtesy of the PTO, for the class that sells the most books!
Book Fair – November 15th – November 20th, in the library. We will need parent volunteers to help out with this wonderful annual event…it’s a great way to buy gifts for teachers, family and friends!
VIP Day – this annual event is held on the last day of school before the Thanksgiving break. The students invite Very Important People to come to the school, enjoy some light refreshments and join them in the classrooms for a variety of entertainment and activities. The morning is split into two sessions, K-2 and 3-5. We will be looking for parent volunteers to help with this fun event.
Spring Festival – while it sounds so far away, there is so much planning to do for this big event. We are looking for someone to chair the festival and the auction– but don’t worry! This person(s) will have a TON of support from a lot of folks who have worked on the festival for several years. If you have any interest in chairing or getting involved in the planning of the festival or auction, please let Sasha Noble know (snoble20268 at msn.com). It takes a village to put on an awesome Spring Festival and Auction J
Helping families in need – we have 8 families in our Stone-Robinson community that could use our help to have a Thanksgiving celebration. Next time you’re in the grocery store, consider buying a gift card for groceries, or write a check payable to Stone-Robinson (not the PTO) and send it in to the front office. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. Let’s help ALL of our Stone-Robinson families enjoy a Happy Thanksgiving.
If you would like to help out with any of the above activities, please sent Sasha Noble an email at Snoble20268 at msn.com and you will be directed to the right person. If you would like to help with any of the events listed above, please send an email to Sasha Noble at snoble20268 at msn.com and you will be directed to the right person. If you would like to help with any of the events listed above, please send an email to Sasha Noble at snoble20268 at msn.com and you will be directed to the right person. If you would like to help with any of the events listed above, please send an email to Sasha Noble at snoble20268 at msn.com and you will be directed to the right person.

Welcome our newest Stone-Robinson faculty member! Stone-Robinson has hired a new 4th grade teacher to accommodate the increase in the number of students in that grade. Danielle Kauffman hails from Canada and has already gotten quite an initiation with students at Camp Albemarle last week!
SMILE! MAKE-UP Picture Day is October 19th
Come with your best smile on Friday, October 19th! If you are re-taking your pictures, be sure to bring the old ones along with you.
3rd Grade “Did You Know” and 5th Grade Recorder and Choir Concert, Tuesday, October 23rd 7 P.M.
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 23rd, 7 P.M. and be treated to two wonderful performances. The 3rd grade will be putting on their “Did You Know” musical program which highlights the history SOLs. That wonderful medley will be followed by a concert from the Fifth Grade Chorus and Recorder Club. It’s a fun-filled and educational music experience for families.
***Prior to the concert, our principal, Ashby Kindler, will address families on the budget issues that our school and our county are facing. Albemarle County’s school system is already planning on major budget cuts, and we may be facing even more than we had thought. Come and hear what is happening with this extremely important issue, and how it might affect your family.
Boy Scout 3rd Annual Veteran’s Day Spaghetti Dinner, Friday, November 2nd 6:00-8:00 P.M. at SRE
Cub Scout Pack 141 is hosting its 3rd annual Veteran's Day Spaghetti Dinner in the SRE Cafeteria on Friday, November 2nd from 6:00 - 8:00. Lowell Badgely, a veteran and member of American Legion Post 74 will discuss the history of our flag. There will be a cake contest, patriotic crafts for the kids, and door prizes! Cost is $5.00 per adult/$2.50 for children 5 and up. Veteran's are our honored guests and will enjoy a free dinner! Take-out plates will be available. Thanks for supporting Scouts and honoring our Vets!
Jefferson Youth Theater and SRE Special Presentation of Snow White! Auditions are Monday, November 19th after school.
Back by popular demand, Jefferson Youth Theater and Stone-Robinson will come together again this year. This time, it will be a musical version of “Snow White.” This is an exciting program designed to introduce kids to the theater and performing arts. On Monday, November 19th, students can audition for a role in the musical. Every child who wants to participate will be able to. No one will be turned away! Once roles are assigned, there will be rehearsals every day for two weeks (November 26th – December 7th) immediately after school at Stone-Robinson. At the end of the rehearsals, there will be a performance held at the auditorium at Burley Middle School on December 8th. It’s going to be magical!
CiCi’s Pizza Night 11/20
Have a crazy schedule and don’t feel like cooking? Take the family out for CiCi’s pizza on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Stone-Robinson will receive 10% of the receipts generated for that night. When you get there, you’ll see a jar with Stone-Robinson’s name on it. Just put your receipt in there and the management will see to it that the school gets the money. CiCi’s is a great, affordable family restaurant. Check it out!
Police Presence At SRE For Drop-off and Pick-up
It has been decided that Stone-Robinson will have police present during drop-off and pick-up times to warn and possibly ticket those who continue to violate the law that prohibits parking in the fire lane. There have been multiple requests for families to cooperate with the required drop-off and pick-up procedure (which means you can not leave your car unattended in the fire lane). However, every day there are multiple violations that put the children and other adults at risk. We will have uniformed police to randomly monitor the procedures and they will have the power to ticket violators. Please help keep our children safe and do not park in the fire lane. If you wish to walk your child into the school in the morning or pick them up in the lobby in the afternoon, please park in a designated parking space to do so. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.
Remember to Register Your Grocery Cards and Target Credit Cards! With the help of our SRE community, we have rallied a lot of registered card holders to designate Stone-Robinson as their school…but we know we can do better!
How do I know if I’m registered? On the bottom of your receipt, you should see A+ bucks noted for SRE. If you don’t, you’re not registered.
How do I register? There are several easy ways to do this: 1) If you’re willing to provide your food store card number and the first 3 letters of your last name, the PTO will do the legwork for you. Just email that information to Sasha Noble at SNoble20268 at msn.com. 2) go to the Giant website and click on the A+ Bucks link and it will take you to the place where you can designate Stone-Robinson (you’ll need to know your card number). SRE’s number is 02399. 3) Giant has forms you can fill out and just put SRE’s number (02399)
Remember, you have to re-register your card every year. So if you did it last year, you have to do it again. You can also have family members from out of town link their card numbers to Stone-Robinson as well. Let’s see if we can top last year’s earnings. Register, Register, Register!!
HELP STOCK LOCAL FOOD BANK
Next time you go grocery shopping or look in your pantry and have extra items you can do without, consider helping to stock the local food banks. Bring the items into Stone-Robinson, and place them in the decorated box near the Scout Cabinet. A little goes a long way.
Saturday Enrichment Program at UVA
UVA’s Curry School of Education offers a Saturday Enrichment program to students K-5. It is a chance to be in an environment that provides learning experiences that are “challenging, encourage creative and productive thinking and expression and foster skills for independent learning.” Students can work in an area of interest, and be put with other students with similar interests and ability levels. Your child does NOT have to have been identified as gifted for this program, but he/she does need a teacher recommendation. It is a first come, first serve opportunity, so act quickly if you are interested. Visit their website (www. curry.edschool.virginia.edu and click on the “class offerings” menu item on the left, and then to “Saturday and Summer Enrichment”. The brochures for this program (which will list the specific classes to be offered) will be available in late October, but with the first come/first serve restriction, it’s a good idea to know as much as possible ahead of time. This program is an extension of their highly sought after summer program.
