CiCi’s Pizza Night 10/16
Have a crazy schedule and don’t feel like cooking? Take the family out for CiCi’s pizza on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Stone-Robinson will receive 10% of the receipts generated for that night. When you get there, you’ll see a jar with Stone-Robinson’s name on it. Just put your receipt in there and the management will see to it that the school gets the money. CiCi’s is a great, affordable family restaurant. Check it out!
SMILE! MAKE-UP Picture Day is October 19th
Come with your best smile on Friday, October 19th! If you are re-taking your pictures, be sure to bring the old ones along with you.
3rd Grade “Did You Know” and 5th Grade Recorder and Choir Concert, Tuesday, October 23rd 7 P.M.
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 23rd, 7 P.M. and be treated to two wonderful performances. The 3rd grade will be putting on their “Did You Know” musical program which highlights the history SOLs. That wonderful medley will be followed by a concert from the Fifth Grade Chorus and Recorder Club. It’s a fun-filled and educational music experience for families.
Stone-Robinson Needs You!
There are still many volunteer slots available for all sorts of “jobs”. Please call Margaret Wachenfeld at 296-3754 extension 159 if you can share your time and/or talent with the students of Stone-Robinson.
Mile High Club
The mile club is up and running! If your child has not signed up yet, it is not too late. We want to make this a fun way to work on fitness and to add some perks other than the great feeling you get from exercising! Please complete the pink form, send it back to the P.E. people, and we will give your child a card. After that, for each mile or ¼ mile increment they complete, simply initial the card. Send the card in on Fridays only. We will enter the information in our database and return the card the same day. Please note that this is for running, walking, treadmills, elliptical trainers, and stationary bikes. We do not include regular biking because there is a lot of distance that can be covered without pedaling. At the end of the year, the two classes that combine for the most miles will take a field trip to the Thomas Jefferson Parkway for a hike. Although we can’t reward you with prizes, parents are encouraged to join their children in the quest to achieve miles!
Boy Scout 3rd Annual Veteran’s Day Spaghetti Dinner, Friday, November 2nd 6:00-8:00 P.M. at SRE
Cub Scout Pack 141 is hosting its 3rd annual Veteran's Day Spaghetti Dinner in the SRE Cafeteria on Friday, November 2nd from 6:00 - 8:00. Lowell Badgely, a veteran and member of American Legion Post 74 will discuss the history of our flag. There will be a cake contest, patriotic crafts for the kids, and door prizes! Cost is $5.00 per adult/$2.50 for children 5 and up. Veteran's are our honored guests and will enjoy a free dinner! Take-out plates will be available. Thanks for supporting Scouts and honoring our Vets!
Jefferson Youth Theater and SRE Special Presentation of Snow White
Back by popular demand, Jefferson Youth Theater and Stone-Robinson will come together again to put on a musical version of “Snow White.” This is an exciting program designed to introduce kids to the theater and performing arts. More details will be forthcoming in backpack mail, but here are a few basic pieces of information. There will be auditions one day after school (although everyone who wants to participate will get to be in the production…no one will get turned away). Once roles are assigned, there will be rehearsals every day for two weeks (possibly to be three) immediately after school at Stone-Robinson. At the end of the rehearsals, there will be a performance held at the auditorium at Burley Middle School. It’s going to be magical!
Special Education Advisory Committee
The Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) representatives for Stone Robinson Elementary are Allan and Stephanie Schuck. SEAC meets monthly with County staff to discuss current issues within the realm of Special Education in the County schools. SEAC representatives are available to speak to individual families and present to the SEAC group any issues that arise throughout the school year. Our contact information is allschu at aol.com. Please feel to contact us.
Police Presence At SRE For Drop-off and Pick-up
It has been decided that Stone-Robinson will have police present during drop-off and pick-up times to warn and possibly ticket those who continue to violate the law that prohibits parking in the fire lane. There have been multiple requests for families to cooperate with the required drop-off and pick-up procedure (which means you can not leave your car unattended in the fire lane). However, every day there are multiple violations that put the children and other adults at risk. We will have uniformed police to randomly monitor the procedures and they will have the power to ticket violators. Please help keep our children safe and do not park in the fire lane. If you wish to walk your child into the school in the morning or pick them up in the lobby in the afternoon, please park in a designated parking space to do so. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.
Remember to Register Your Grocery Cards and Target Credit Cards! The numbers are in, and last year we earned over $2,500 from local grocery stores and Target credit cards by registering Stone-Robinson as the designated school. That’s free money for our school that goes towards many of the PTO’s good causes such as field trips for the students, teacher supplies, special event nights and so much more. It’s one of the simplest ways to contribute without spending extra money. If you’re willing to provide your food store card number and the first 3 letters of your last name, the PTO will do the legwork for you. Just email that information to Sasha Noble at SNoble20268 at msn.com.** Remember, you have to re-register your card every year. So if you did it last year, you have to do it again. You can also have family members from out of town link their card numbers to Stone-Robinson as well. Let’s see if we can top last year’s earnings. Register, Register, Register!!
Day Of Caring Thank You
The United Way Day of Caring took place on Wednesday, September 19. Stone-Robinson benefited in many ways due to the enthusiastic volunteers who came to serve our school. A group from Downer and Associates repainted the dedication on our track. A large group from Sate Farm were Lunch Buddies for all the classes and joined them for recess. A very dedicated group from the UVA Arts and Science Managers took on three projects. They built a bench for the K/1 hall, rescued a butterfly bush for Mrs. Larrick, and weeded, mulch, planted in the library courtyard. All these volunteers donated many hours to make our school a better place. Come and see their work the next time you are at school. If you happen to meet someone who says they were here for the Day of Caring, please tell them thank you!
Saturday Enrichment Program at UVA
UVA’s Curry School of Education offers a Saturday Enrichment program to students K-5. It is a chance to be in an environment that provides learning experiences that are “challenging, encourage creative and productive thinking and expression and foster skills for independent learning.” Students can work in an area of interest, and be put with other students with similar interests and ability levels. Your child does NOT have to have been identified as gifted for this program, but he/she does need a teacher recommendation. It is a first come, first serve opportunity, so act quickly if you are interested. Visit their website (www. curry.edschool.virginia.edu and click on the “class offerings” menu item on the left, and then to “Saturday and Summer Enrichment”. The brochures for this program will be available in late October, but with the first come/first serve restriction, it’s a good idea to know as much as possible ahead of time. This program is an extension of their highly sought after summer program.
