SUPPORT YOUR DI TEAM!
As you know, our winning 5th Grade DI Team is heading to Nashville for the Global Championship in about 3 weeks. Despite the county’s contribution on top of what the PTO has given and what the kids have raised, they are still shy of reaching their financial goal. If you would like to help these families, please send in ANY amount to give these kids. Let’s support our state champions as they proudly represent our school at the global level of competition. The checks can be sent in via backpack mail, and they can be made out to SREPTO – but be sure to put 5th Grade DI in the memo line so we know what it’s for! Thanks for supporting our kids!
Burley Middle School “Yard Sale”
Got clutter? The J.P. Burley Middle School Yearbook Club is sponsoring a yard sale 9-12 on May 10th. Rain or shine, the yard sale will be held in the Burley Gymnasium. Rent a table for $10, and you keep the proceeds of your sale (additional donations will, of course, be accepted!) Here's your chance to clean up AND make a little extra cash! Contact Tara Mincer to reserve a table: 245-0001 or taramincer at aol.com.
Cliff Bruce Studios
Cliff Bruce Portrait Studios made a fantastic offer to the Stone-Robinson PTO for our auction Friday night. They offered a portrait sitting and free 8 X10 (a $395 value) for only $95, and all the money goes to Stone-Robinson! They made this offer for 12 families, and 9 families signed up at the Silent Auction. There are only four remaining, so please contact Tara Mincer (taramincer at aol.com) or 245-0001 quickly if you'd like to help us take full advantage of their generous offer. Cliff Bruce Studios is in Glen Allen, VA, but he offered to come to Charlottesville for outdoor sittings with each family.
Bullies and Their Victims – Origins and Solutions Workshop May 10 10:30 – 12:00 P.M. Gordon Avenue Library
On Saturday, May 10th, Peter Sheras, a clinical psychologist and UVA Professor with the Curry School of Education will be hosting a workshop on bullying. Learn more about why kids bully and why kids take it; hear about research on early signs and symptoms of bullies and victims, and what to do about it. Free childcare is available on a limited basis, and you must register for it. Infants are welcome to attend with their parents. Questions? Call 434-296-4118 ext. 0 to register and get more information.
Help Send Underprivileged Kids to Summer Camp
Nita Irvine, the social worker for Stone-Robinson, is looking to our community to help support Summer FUNd. Contributing any amount of money to this fund helps the Children, Youth and Family Services organization send kids to summer camp. Studies show that summer enrichment opportunities help children do better in school, home and in the community. You can contribute ANY amount, and all amounts are appreciated. Questions? Contact Rory Carpenter at rcarpenter at albemarle.org. Checks can be made out to Summer FUNd/CYFS, 116 Jefferson Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
SPRING FESTIVAL and SILENT AUCTION
Was a HUGE success this year and the PTO would like to thank everyone who helped out. Like the saying goes, “it takes a village,” and this was a prime example. We’d particularly like to thank those of you who answered our desperate need for volunteers for the games. Our kids were able to have a great night because you gave up some of your time, and we really appreciate it!
- Special recognition also goes to Perfectly Planned – the company run by one of our own, Brandy Mullins. Her moonbounces and dunk tank are always a smash!
- Also, thank you to Freckles N Friends for their wonderful magic shows, entertainment, laughs and treats.
- A great thanks also to Carriage Hill for their petting zoo. The kids love to see the animals up close, and we couldn’t do that without them.
Our festival wouldn’t be the same without any of them.
