Subject: [StonyPointEagle] Teacher's Golden Apple Award and
GANGIdentification and Prevention Forum

Hello,

If you are pleased with what our teachers are doing for Stony Point
children you should recommend a teacher for the Golden Apple Award.
Awards are presented to faculty members from the public and private
schools to honor "outstanding" teachers.

The Golden Apple Award

One candidate is selected to represent their school and receives a
Golden Apple, as well as gift certificates from local businesses. As a
"Golden Apple" teacher, each candidate is then eligible to receive a
Golden Apple Grant ($1000). Grants are awarded to eight (8) candidates:
3 elementary, 2 middle, and 2 high school candidates of the public
schools in Albemarle County and Charlottesville City and CATEC, and to 1
candidate from the schools that are members of the Virginia Association
of Independent Schools (VAIS). The grant award may be used to support
the candidate's continued professional development.

You can learn more information about the program and download the
nomination form at this website:

http://schoolcenter.k12albemarle.org/education/dept/dept.php?sectiondeta
ilid=34278

The nomination form will only take a moment to complete. I believe our
teachers deserve this moment of our time. The forms should be turned in
to Dave Cushman at Stony Point Elementary School on or before March 2nd
, 2006.

There will be a Community Forum on Gang Identification and Prevention on
Thursday, Feb. 23rd, 2-9:00pm at the Monticello Convention Center, 201
Monticello Avenue. Free and open to the public, refreshments' provided.

Parents and community members can take action to prevent our children
from participating in gangs. This forum offers training on how to
identify gang involvement and how to access available local resources to
prevent gang involvement and activity,

Forum is sponsored b: the Charlottesville and Albemarle County Police
Department, Charlottesville and Albemarle Schools, Charlottesville and
Albemarle Social Service Departments and may other organizations.
