Internet Safety Tips for Parents Available on School Division Website

About 30 million children of all ages access the Internet. There are
safety hazards for children on that information superhighway that can be
avoided if families educate themselves about appropriate online behavior
and set reasonable rules for Internet use. Albemarle County Public
Schools has published an information sheet with tips and links to help
families learn how to safely partake of the information bounty of the
Internet. Online Safety Tips for Parents and Students can be viewed on
the Albemarle County Public Schools website at www.k12albemarle.org
<http://www.k12albemarle.org/> . The link is located in the "In the
News" column on the homepage.

Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year Award

The Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year grant is awarded annually to recognize
outstanding local teachers and the schools from which they teach.
Through an in-store nomination and balloting process that will take
place through February 28, one outstanding teacher is recognized
locally. The winning teacher is recognized on National Teacher's Day
and a $1,000 grant is made payable to the school in their honor. All
local winners are encouraged to apply for the State grant which awards a
$10,000 grant payable to their school. There is also one National
Teacher grant of $25,000 payable to their school. Last year's local
winner was Ann Smith from Walker Elementary (Charlottesville City
Schools).

A nomination form includes:

1) Teacher's name

2) School name

3) Name of person completing the nomination

4) Reason for nominating the teacher. Include qualities or
accomplishments that set this teacher apart from others. Specifically
identify special qualities showing that the teacher goes above and
beyond the normal expectation.

Nomination forms can be found on the Wal-Mart Foundation website at
www.walmartfoundation.org <http://www.walmartfoundation.org/> under the
"Education" link.
