 Internet Safety
Western Albemarle High School hosted a Safety Forum on October 24, 2007. Albemarle County Public Schools Principal, Chris Dyer introduced participants and Dr. Bernard Hairston of the  Office of Community Engagement facilitated the event which included a Question & Answer session. Topics included Cyber Safety and Awareness featuring presentations from members of  Who's Watching Charlottesville . Martin Peterman, IT Security Specialist and Lauren McSwain-Starrett, Public Relations & Marketing Specialist for University of Virginia's Office of Information Technology and Communication presented information about Social Networking sites. Detective Gary Pistulka of the Albemarle County Police Department's  Internet Crimes Against Children task force also presented online safety tips and information. An overview of the parent portal for the Emergency School Notification System was provided by Selina Deale, Web Services Coordinator for Albemarle County Public
