I apologize for creating some confusion about the SOL tests! I have
provided additional information in bold italics. We will be giving the
mid-year round of SOL tests in January. I am asking that all families
keep dates for your children in mind so that, to the greatest extent
possible, you avoid scheduling appointments for them on a day when they
will be taking a test. Testing is untimed and will begin at 9:30 each
day. Please be aware that there are no Science SOL tests for 6th or 7th
grade. The 8th grade test covers all three years of middle school
curriculum. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES ARE
SEMESTER LENGTH COURSES HERE AT SUTHERLAND! If your child is a 6th or
7th grader, s/he will take a Social Studies test on the date listed IF
s/he has been taking Social Studies this semester. If s/he is in
Science now, s/he will not take any tests until the spring. If your
child is in 8th grade, s/he will only take the test for the course in
which s/he is currently enrolled.
Tuesday, January 9 - 6th grade Social Studies
Wednesday, January 10 - 7th grade Social Studies
Thursday, January 11 - 8th grade Science
Friday, January 12 - 8th grade Civics
All students will take Reading and Math in late May/early June. 8th
graders will take a Writing test in March and either Science or Civics
(depending upon which course they take in the spring semester) in late
May/early June. Algebra and Geometry students will also take an
end-of-course test at that time. 6th and 7th graders who are enrolled
in Social Studies in the spring semester will take that test in late
May/early June as well.
Please contact me if you would like further information. Thanks! Dave
Rogers
