The next Board of Supervisors meeting will be held this coming Wednesday,
March 8th starting at 6:00 p.m. at MONTICELLO HIGH SCHOOL in the Auditorium
(1400 Independence Way).
This meeting will be devoted to a public hearing to receive comments on the
County Executive's FY 2006/2007 Recommended Budget. It is critical that
there be a strong presence from the county schools to
demonstrate support for full funding of public education. It is at this
hearing that everyone who wants their fair share of the county budget "pie"
is in attendance - including those who question or criticize the amount of
resources devoted to educational funding (the County Executive's proposed
budget includes $138 million for the School Division, a $15m or 12.2%
increase over the current budget; the budget for the School Division
represents 53% of the total proposed county budget). So, we cannot afford to
be complacent. Whether or not you choose to offer comments at the hearing,
your attendance is important.
Although the county's announcement of the hearing did not specify this,
typically the sign-ups for those who wish to speak begins at 5:00pm.

Also consider that e-mails go a long way to inform our
supervisors about what we want as their constituents. If you are unable
to attend the meeting, then e-mail your support and encourage others to
do the same. Obviously, the more specific you can be about the budget
proposals you feel strongly about, the better.
Remember, you do not have to speak to show your support for our new
superintendent's
balanced budget. Your presence will go a long way. This is probably the most
important
meeting in the budget process because everyone wants as much money as they
can get.
We need to show the Board of Supervisors that we care about the education
that our children
receive and support the amount of money that we need for a quality
education.
Please join me on Wed. night,
Stacy Walker
Vice President Sutherland PTO
Sutherland Parent Council Representative
