2. PTO Update

The last PTO meeting for the 2005-2006 school year will be held on
Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 6:30 pm.

We still need officers for next year. We have one nomination for president
and all other positions are vacant. For the executive board, the positions
of vice-president, secretary, and treasurer are up for grabs. Any of the
positions can be shared by two people. So talk with your friends and see if
maybe you could team up to help us out.

We also need people for many committees next year. Some of those are:
fundraising, eight-grade dance, yearbook, and volunteer coordinator. The
more people we get to volunteer the less work that everyone has to do. If
you are interested, please contact any of the PTO board members or come to
the last meeting and let us know what you would like to do.

At Sutherland, we have always celebrated “Staff” Appreciation Week.
Typically, we have tried to do it during Teachers Appreciation week. Many
schools are celebrating this week but the official week was last week. For
several reasons, we are opting to celebrate at the end of the month, May 30
through June 2. We are planning the following:

Ø Tuesday – Surprise
Ø Wednesday – Pizza and salad lunch
Ø Thursday – Desserts for lunch
Ø Friday – Surprise

We need everyone’s help with the following donations:
1. Desserts for Thursday - Please bring to the main office after 2:00 pm
on Wednesday or before 10:30 am on Thursday.
2. Donations of bags of small wrapped candies - This is part of the
surprise and we cannot reveal the details because the teachers read this
email. Please leave your contribution in the main office by the end of the
day, Thursday, May 25.

The PTO has recently funded several purchases to support our teachers and
student activities.
Some of the items purchased are:
1. Sets of non-fiction books for eighth grade Language Arts
2. Calculators for SOL testing
3. Supplies for drama and chorus department
4. Anti-fatigue mat for the school nurse
5. Various musical equipment for the band
6. Replaced several pieces of equipment in the TV Station
7. Lab equipment for eighth grade science
8. Donation to Albemarle County Parent Advisory Council
9. Donation to the Eileen Kelly Fun Run
10. Items for Staff and Student Appreciation
