Dear SMS parents,
We are currently seeking an interested parent to serve on the Special
Education Advisory Committee (SEAC). The SEAC Chairperson,
Mark McLane, as part of the annual report to the Albemarle County School
Board on April 26, 2007, reported a need for the continuing effort on
the part of Albemarle County Schools to identify representativesfrom
their schools to serve on the committee.
The SEAC is charged with the following responsibilities:
1. Advise Albemarle County Schools of unmet needs in the education of
children with disabilities;
2. Assist Albemarle County Schools in the formulation and development of
long-range plans designed to provide needed education services for
children with disabilities;
3. Participate in the development of priorities and strategies for
meeting the identified needs of children with disabilities;
4. Assist Albemarle County Schools in interpreting plans to the
community for meeting the special needs of children with disabilities.
The first meeting is proposed to be on September 27, 2007 from 7:00-9:00
P.M. in Room 320 of
the County Office Building. All other meetings, SEAC by-laws and other
