Parents, School Employees and Neighbors are invited to join us for the final of four community forums designed to build our “cultural competency.” Cultural competence is a set of attitudes, skills, behaviors and policies that allow an individual or organization to increase their understanding and appreciation of cultural differences and similarities. It involves using knowledge of education-related beliefs, attitudes and
practices to improve student achievement.
At the March 13th Community Forum, participants will work with local experts and continue our courageous conversations by:
♦ Hearing how a panel of middle and high school students perceives the connections with stereotyping, bullying and race.
♦ Learning what the Albemarle County Schools are doing about bullying behavior.
♦ Learning about practical tools for helping children stop bullying behavior.
♦ Hearing from our principals how their schools are becoming more proactive with cultural diversity.
♦ As a community, talking about the next steps for future forums.
Participating Schools:
♦ Baker-Butler Elementary
974-7777
♦ Hollymead Elementary
973-8301
♦ Sutherland Middle
975-0599
Join us in improving our community through our Strategic Plan Goal for “Preparing all students to succeed as members of a
global community and in a global society.”
