        I would like to bring to your attention the 2007 Girls and
Mathematics Summer Day Program hosted by the University of Virginia,
August 6-10, 2007. The program is aimed at

6th, 7th and 8th grade women students. I would very much appreciate your
help in advertising the program to your 6th, 7th and 8th grade women
students and their mathematics teachers.

        This day program (9am-12noon) is free of charge and designed to
provide participants with a variety of mathematical experiences to
extend their understanding and knowledge in mathematics. Emphasis will
be placed on problem solving. The covered topics are

    * numbers -- real and complex

    * introduction to cryptography

    * elementary plane geometry

  Eligibility: Girl students should be enrolled in the 6th, 7th or 8th
grade during the academic year 2006-2007 and have the recommendation of
their mathematics teacher.
